The 6th annual Mountain Music Festival at ACE Adventure Resort is set to be a rocking weekend May 30th – June 2nd in the New River Gorge, West Virginia. This year’s lineup features over 25 bands including Americana badass Tyler Childers with The Floozies, Big Something, The Werks, Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band and more. The 2019 show poster just got released and the talents of Brian Zickafoose once again blow us away.
The Art of Brian Zickafoose
Brian Zickafoose has been attending MMFest for the past few years as one of our visual artists where we absolutely feel in love with his artwork. Last year we asked him to create the 2018 show poster and Brian knocked it out of the park with the Mad Rafter design. When it came time to design our show poster for the 2019 event there was no question who we would turn to.
We asked Brian to tell us a bit about his insipiration for the poster artwork:
I initially had the idea for the circus theme artwork at last year’s Mountain Music Festival as I was standing under the large circus art tent during Big Something‘s late night set. The whole environment of the festival seemed like a wild circus with all of the stage laser lights and spinning LED hoops and the crowd lurching to and fro to the music – it was an epic moment of inspiration!
When the time came to lay down the idea for the actual poster design, I pondered the type of animals one might encounter at circus on a mountain in West Virginia. I went back and revisited the MMFest photo albums from years past and lo and behold I saw the Dancing Dead Bears that inspired the Boogie Black Bear.
I had to include the Mardi Bra Pony of Legend, which was an actual stuffed animal that made the stage during Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band set at MMFest 2016! The Hooping bunny was inspired by a photo taken by Roger Gupta of performing artist, Marie Ekaterina. The other characters in the poster I developed from my imagination but keep your eyes peeled because you just might see a tubing turtle at the ACE Waterpark!
The Pigment Sanctuary
Mountain Music Festival has been bringing artists to the mountaintop since the early beginnings of the event and each year our commitment to the art community expands. Last year we erected a giant 120’ x 60’ circus tent and invited our visual artists to fill this space with art, workshops, music, after parties, and more. This space became known as The Pigment Sanctuary. We are excited to once again bring this visual art space back to MMFest 2019 in a big way. There is still time to submit your art for the 2019 event by filling out the Visual Artist online application here. Stay tuned for the Pigment Sanctuary lineup dropping in early March.

The Mountain Music Festival show poster gets shared with tens of thousands of people via social media sites like Facebook and Instagram plus some 50,000+ handbills and posters are printed and sent up and down the east coast.
