Tony

ashton hill visual artist

Deep in the woods of West Virginia there lives a man, a mountain man. With a whittling knife in one hand and a banjo on his knee, there is but one true mission, to set nature free. For many years, Tony has been growing a native plant nursery and designing landscapes for the region of Central Appalachia. By specializing in plants of high ecological value and invasive species control, the life-giving potential of land can be more fully realized. Harkening back to the days of old, many nights are spent carving, whittling, and woodworking. Whether it be benches, spoons, or figurines, these works of art are created using only hand tools so that each one is given a soul and reminds us of the ever-beating heart of Appalachia.
