Lacey believes art-making is a compulsory activity to process occupying flesh and uses it to explore different aspects of identity. From processing trauma and triggers to celebrating beauty and glimmers, art helps them to appreciate their existence inside the meat suit. Art serves as their bridge to relating to a world of constant creation and destruction and provides a never-ending well of inspiration.
After graduating with a BFA in 2016 from James Madison University, they have toured the country four times for their painting career, spent a decade painting at festivals, and sought further education with the Academy of Visionary Art. In 2017, they received the Artist of the Year award with the Crystal Chalice Awards, and in 2018, they were accepted into the permanent collection at the Pacha MoMA in Irapuato, Mexico. Lacey now finds themself planted in Wilmington, NC, where they gain inspiration from life on the coast.
